Public Hearing Scheduled for Klahanie and Greenwood Point/South Cove Pre-Annexation Zoning
Second of Two Public Hearings Regarding Pre-Annexation Zoning Scheduled
The second of two public hearings to consider public testimony regarding pre-annexation zoning is scheduled on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 7:30 PM in Issaquah Council Chambers on Sunset Way.
The first of two public hearings was held on July 18, 2005. At the close of the public hearing, the Council directed the Administration to draft an ordinance regarding pre-annexation zoning based on the City's Comparable Zoning to be reviewed by the Council at the second public hearing.
It has been the City's practice to apply City zoning to property in annexation areas that is the same as, or most comparable with, the King County zoning of the property prior to annexation. IMC 18.06.060(B) identifies the City zones that are most comparable with the existing County zoning. The Administration has prepared a preliminary zoning map for the annexation area based on the most “comparable zoning”.
The City Council must hold two public hearings on the proposed zoning for the annexation area, and the hearings must be held at least 30 days apart (RCW 35A.14.340).
At the second public hearing, any follow-up information is provided by the Administration and a specific zoning ordinance is presented for Council consideration and action. Following the close of public testimony, the Council acts on the proposed ordinance. The Council may accept, modify or reject the proposed zoning designations in the ordinance. If approved, the Pre-annexation Zoning Ordinance takes effect only if and when the Greenwood Point/South Cove and Klahanie area annexes to the City.
