North Issaquah: Road Improvements
Overview
The City of Issaquah is planning a series of road improvements to relieve traffic congestion in north Issaquah.
The improvements are generally bounded by East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, Southeast 56th Street/Northwest Sammamish Road, 17th Avenue Northwest and Interstate 90.
Current Conditions
Several roads in this area are operating at - or near - their capacity, which impacts the mobility of shoppers, visitors, employees and freight deliveries. In addition, commuters who travel through the area also experience significant delays, especially during rush hours. Road upgrades could significantly help mobility and economic development in this area.
Funding
If approved, a Issaquah Local Improvement District (LID) #25 would help fund the improvements, as well as City contributions and state/federal grants.
An LID, which requires City Council approval, would be funded by the property owners located in the established boundaries.
Timeline
The City is in the process of completing 30 percent design, special reports for environmental review and cost estimates.
Once that work is completed, the next steps include refining the feasibility information, creating a preliminary assessment roll and ultimately holding a public hearing for the City Council to consider creating the LID. The public hearing is planned to occur sometime in 2014.
