The Planning Department’s mission is to guide Issaquah from its past and its present into the future, to advise and inform the public concerning policies that serve to protect the environment and to preserve the City’s unique identity and quality of life.

The Planning Department advises the Administration and City Council on planning related issues and is responsible for three key areas:  Current Planning, Policy Planning and Environmental Planning.

Current Planning administers the City’s Land Use Development Regulations including the City’s Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Code, Critical Areas Ordinance and Shoreline Master Program through the review of land use development applications for all public and private development proposals.

Policy Planning developed, updates and maintains the City’s Comprehensive Plan, updates Land Use codes, processes annexations and coordinates with neighboring jurisdictions.

Environmental Planning reviews proposed land use policies and regulations and development proposals for compliance with the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and prepares Environmental Impact Statements required under SEPA.
