Tent City Permit Issued -- On June 11th, a Special Event Permit (#SPE07-00032) was issued to representatives from The Community Church of Issaquah and SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort) to host Tent City 4 which will be held August 11 through November 10, 2007. The Tent City encampment will be located on Community Church of Issaquah property, at 205 Mountain Park Blvd SW.

--------------------------------

SHARE/WHEEL, an advocacy organization for the homeless based in Seattle, would operate and supervise the proposed temporary camp with assistance from the Community Church. SHARE/WHEEL has operated Tent City 4 in Eastside communities including Bothell, Woodinville, Kirkland, Bellevue, and Redmond since 2004. The proposed camp would be the first Tent City visit to Issaquah.

In anticipation that a temporary camp request may be received, the Administration & City Council Leadership conducted a review of temporary homeless camps that included consideration of Issaquah code requirements as well as the experiences of other cities. City officials also maintained an informal dialog with interested community members about the potential for a Tent City.

The City Council held a public meeting about temporary homeless camps at its Committee-of-the-Whole Council meeting on February 27, 2007. At this meeting, the City Council discussed temporary homeless camps with the Administration and listened to testimony from interested members of the public.
