Stream and Riparian Areas Restoration Plan

|
In 2006 the City contracted the Watershed Company to prepare a Stream and Riparian Areas Restoration Plan. The plan was modeled after a similar plan that was prepared for Lake Sammamish State Park, which the City was also involved in. This plan evaluates current stream and riparian (streamside) conditions along the major streams in the City (including Issaquah Creek, East Fork Issaquah Creek, North Fork Issaquah Creek, Tibbetts Creek, Lewis Creek, and Laughing Jacobs Creek) and identifies areas in need of restoration. A total of 74 potential projects were identified on both public and private property and ranked using 20 different criteria. Conceptual restoration designs were prepared for 28 of those sites, and includes site location maps and pictures, description of the site, and a conceptual rendition of a potential restoration project. The document will be used to provide long-term guidance on stream restoration efforts undertaken by the City, including developing future capital improvement projects and grant applications. For those projects shown on private property, this plan will form a basis for beginning discussions with those property owners on potential future restoration projects. The plan is available for viewing at Public Works Engineering Department, and a limited number of copies are available for purchase.
