TONIGHT Open House regarding Lake Sammamish State Park
To all Lake Sammamish State Park Enthusiasts:
You are invited to a public open house on Wednesday, May 28, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Issaquah City Hall Eagle Room (police station). The purpose of this meeting is to answer questions and get community input on schematic design the State has prepared for renovation of Sunset Beach.

During the past year, work has steadily continued to implement the Lake Sammamish State Park committee’s vision for Lake Sammamish. Last summer the State Parks and Recreation Commission formally adopted the park’s Redevelopment and Restoration Concept Plan. Then, in the 2007-09 state budget about $565,000 was allocated to begin design and permitting for renovation of Sunset Beach. Consultants Patano Hafermann Architects and Robert Droll Landscape Architects have now completed schematic design for both buildings and the site improvements. The schematic design stage is a perfect time to show what the State has in mind and get community feedback. The State will then incorporate input as design and permitting is completed. The State's hope is to secure funding through a combination of grants and the agency’s capital budget to begin construction in the 2009-11 biennium. The 2007-09 state budget also funded an Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account (ALEA) grant to restore and enhance shoreline areas at Sunset Beach. This cooperative project with the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust includes contributions from the State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board, King County, King Conservation District, Carter Motors, and Microsoft. The project is underway and the State plans to begin restoration this summer.
In addition, the American Institute of Architects Seattle Chapter recently awarded Patano Hafermann Architects one of ten “What Makes it Green?” awards for design of the Sunset Beach Bathhouse. The competition included 56 built and “unbuilt” projects throughout the Northwest and Pacific region, including Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Idaho, Japan, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Winning designs will be displayed in Seattle, Vancouver and Honolulu. Check the Patano Hafermann submittal at this link.
