To prevent future flood losses at several existing residential and commercial buildings, the City of Issaquah is applying for funding under FEMA’s (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Public meetings for this project will be held Aug. 27 and Sept. 10, 2009.
The proposed project includes elevating first floors of up to eight residential homes and floodproofing three commercial building structures to prevent future floodwaters from impacting these buildings. Property owners would fund the local share of the grant, and no City funds are involved in this project (except for staff time for grant application and administration).
The properties targeted under the HMGP program have all been subject to historical flooding that caused damage and displacement of homeowners and businesses.
